The long awaited El Nino, while not as strong as predicted, has none the less given us enough precipitation to provide a good rafting and kayaking season. The March 1st snow survey puts the Kaweah drainage snowpack at 94%. Current forecasts suggest a strengthened storm track through Central and Southern California for the next 2 to 3 months with the first wave of these storms expected this weekend. As it stands we should have an excellent season from mid April through mid to late June. If the forecasts prove true we will be rafting well into July with peak flows in early June. Check back frequently for the latest river flow forecasts regarding the 2016 Kaweah season. Please visit the Kaweah River page for current Kaweah flow information.
Although it has been dryer than forecast and temperatures have been mild, the Kaweah river now has good flows for quality rafting trips. We are conducting trips every day and the outlook for the upcoming weeks is a gradual warming and flows will increase on a daily basis. We anticipate peak flows in late May and will be running trips through late June. This is our best season in years. Don’t miss out on the fun! Hope to see you on the river this year.
Mild low pressure continues to dominate current weather patterns. After 2 weeks of increasing temperatures and flows approaching 2500 cfs the river has settled back to approximately 1000 cfs. The river will hover around this level until late in the week when temperatures are expected to increase 15 degrees. The Kaweah River will rise accordingly providing ideal flows for the upcoming Holiday. We are conducting trips daily. Don’t miss out on the fun! This promises to be the best Memorial Day Weekend on the Kaweah River in years.
